Die Baardskeerdersbos
Orkes
Bbos is home to the famous Baardskeerdersbos Orkes, a banjo,
guitar, concertina and accordion ensemble, playing traditional boere musiek. Oom Manie
is the main man. He also owns the Bbos Café and Drank Winkel. A happening in Bbos
isn’t complete without Oom Manie and his crew.
Marietjies Restaurant
Leave your pretensions at home as you step into the social hub
of Bbos. Marietjie, the proprietor, is larger than life, with a heart of gold,
a wicked sense of humour and is much loved in the community. The pub is a
melting pot of local people, the old and the new. Two sheepdogs sleeping under the
bakkie outside (drive carefully as you pass, they leap out and scare the living
daylights out of unsuspecting motorists), chickens, ducks and geese doing there
thing around the pond, the occasional hanslammetjie bleating for a bottle at
anyone who casts a look in its general direction…. And did I mention the food?
Marietjies steak, schnitzels, calamari and ribs are delicious and the chips are
real chips, not frozen chips out of a packet! Just one warning: the portions
are HUGE! You have been warned! A Marietjies breakfast will keep you going
until dinner time. No fancy, complicated, trying to be clever, fussy foods.
Just real, tasty meals. There is not a wine list, so best to bring your own.
The bar is well stocked with all the rest and the prices are very reasonable. Did I mention the portions...

Die Werf
On the farm, Die Werf, Albert Swart
lives his dream by making his own wine.
The cool climate brings the best out
of the vines to produce good balanced and quality wines.
The Strandveld Pub and Restaurant
The Baardskeerdersbos school established in 1920 is today the Strandveld Pub. They offer good food and down-to-earth hospitality.
Here are some photos of the "Back to School"
party held there recently.
Oom Manie and the BBos Orkes entertained partygoers till the wee hours. Good old fashioned FUN!
